Winter Study Groups

Meeting dates are posted on our association branch calendar. During the winter of 2020/2021 we are studying BBKA Module 6 – Honey Bee Behaviour.

Between October and March, interested members get together and study an element of bees and beekeeping in order to increase their knowledge. Bees are fascinating and so there is no risk that we’ll ever come to the point that we know everything!

Each year we create a study plan based on the syllabus of one of the BBKA modules which guides and focuses our learning. At each session, we test our learning and help each other with bits we struggled with in the study plan. We use a mixture of group discussion, videos, models, diagrams, microscopes, and past papers and are always well supported by our most experienced beekeepers.

Some of the study group use the sessions to help prepare for the BBKA module exams but most simply come along because they miss talking about bees with their beekeeper friends over winter.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we take it in turns to bake a cake to provide us all with brain energy. Why not come along and join us?
