Queen Rearing Course

This course provides an introduction to queen rearing and is suited to those who have 4 to 12 colonies and have passed (or could pass) their BBKA Basic assessment.
The one day course is led by experienced beekeepers and provides lunch and refreshments.
A morning theory session covers the selection of breeder queens by assessing colony attributes, setting up a hive as a queen cell rearing colony, and the miller method of queen raising.
Practical sessions in the afternoon will demonstrate:
- how how to assess a hive
- the miller method for queen rearing
- making up mating nucleus colonies
- introducing queen cells
- introducing queens to full colonies
After completing this course you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to raise your own queens for the purposes of requeening colonies and improving your stock of bees.
